East-Central at a Glance
While other centres in Alberta continue to sprawl, the vibrant communities
of East-Central Alberta encapsulate the pioneer spirit and small town charm
that founded this province decades ago. The area, located just southeast of
Edmonton, offers the kind of pastoral landscape expected, with rolling parkland,
pristine lakes and fields of farmland. Wainright, home to a large military base,
holds an annual four-day rodeo with the world's largest chuckwagon race. Camrose
makes use of its expansive landscape with three golf courses and a large outdoor
country music festival held at the end of July. Beaverhill Lake Reserve, at
Tofield, is the summer resting place for hundreds of thousands of Canada geese,
snow geese, swans, cranes and more.
